HIDDEN JOEY ๐Ÿฆ˜

How to play

Some words contain a synonym of themselves, spelled out in order among their own letters. They are called kangaroo words, and the hidden synonym is the joey. Once a day, you find it: tap or type the joey's letters, in order, inside the word that hides it. BLOSSOM hides BLOOM.

Three rounds

Warm-up. One word, and it is definitely a kangaroo. Three tries to find its joey.

The hunt. Three words, one kangaroo, two decoys. Five tries shared across all three โ€” spend them on a decoy and there are fewer left for the real one.

The deep end. The hunt again, harder: longer words, better-hidden joeys, five tries.

Every round ends the same way, with the true story of where its word came from.

Misses

A miss costs a try and tells you nothing about which word holds the joey. That is deliberate, and it holds for every miss in the game. Misses are still worth something as evidence, though: two misses on the same word prove it a decoy and it goes cold. The word holding the joey never goes cold.

Hints

Hints are free โ€” taking one costs you nothing. They arrive in a fixed order: first the joey's length appears as empty slots in the pouch, then one decoy is sent cold, and last a clue to the joey's meaning. The warm-up has no decoy, so it skips that step. The answer is never named.

The share grid

One row per round, one square per try โ€” โฌ› a miss, ๐ŸŸฉ the catch. It gives nothing away, so it is safe to post. Streaks and stats stay on your device; there is no account and nothing to sign up for.
